IBSA, a dialogue forum comprising India, Brazil and South Africa, campaigning for reforms of the UN today made it clear that urgent steps must be taken to bring the discussions on Security Council reform to a successful conclusion, preferably by the end of this year.
At a meeting attended by PM Manmohan Singh, Brazilian president Luir Inacio Lula da Silva and South African president Thabo Mbeki, the three countries agreed to continue their engagement on all aspects relating to UN reform.
They shared the view that no reform of the UN would be complete without the reform and expansion of the Security Council, with the inclusion of developing countries as permanent members. — PTI
