Donatella Versace plans to stay sober after a trip to rehab last year. She told Vogue that her 18-year addiction to cocaine began at 32, when she mostly used the drug at parties in NY and LA. ‘‘I had so much fun,’’ said Versace. The murder of her brother Gianni in 1997 made her to abandon the drug. ‘‘I couldn’t go late to work…Gianni wasn’t there. I had to organise my company, my family…But it wasn’t as though I was going to stop my behaviour forever.’’
She began mixing cocaine with sedatives, and hit bottom in March 2004. ‘‘I was crying, laughing, crying, sleeping…I think if I didn’t go (to rehab) I would have died.’’ Family and friends, including Elton John, staged an intervention at her daughter Allegra’s 18th birthday party. She flew to the US and spent five weeks in rehab. Now, she says, ‘‘I have all new habits. ’’ — PTI
