Armed assailants set off an explosive device at a UN office in Damascus on Tuesday, killing one of the militants, wounding another and setting the building ablaze.

‘‘There were at least two terrorists. One was killed and another injured after they detonated an explosive device that set the UN building on fire and destroyed at least three vehicles,’’ a diplomatic source said.

Al Arabiya TV also reported 15 blasts in buildings belonging to Canada, Britain and Iran.

Israeli state TV said the British, Canadian and Saudi embassies were among the targets. A British Foreign Office spokeswoman in London said an explosion took place on a street close to the Iranian Ambassador’s residence. —(Reuters)
