Instead of taking steps to control dengue in the city, the district health officials are waiting for the weather god to intervene and bring down the temperature.
The increasing number of dengue patients admitted to various hospitals is giving sleeplessness nights to the health officials, who have so far failed to check the disease.
Sources said till date, more than 173 dengue patients have been treated and 10 more were admitted to Guru Nanak
Dev Hospital.
Dr RPS Boparai, Medical Superintendent of the hospital, said doctors were waiting for the weather gods to turn merciful. “The number of dengue patients will come down in the next couple of days when the temperature lowers, as mosquitoes die in cold weather,” he said.
Ten patients were undergoing treatment at Fortis Escorts Heart and Super-specialty Hospital, said Medical Superintendent Dr HP Singh.
“We have done the best we could. Number of cases will come down with change in weather,” said Dr Lehamber Singh, Amritsar Civil Surgeon.
