GOC 15 Corps, Lt General V.C. Patankar today handed over a cheque for Rs 1 lakh to the widow of maulvi Abdul Qayoom, who was “mistakenly” killed along with his son last month.

The General added the Army would adopt one of his sons and bear the expenses for his schooling. The senior Army officer was accompanied by J-K Finance Minister Muzzuffar Hussain Baig.

The Minister announced that he would bear the expenses for the education of the deceased’s daughter. He added that her marriage expenses would be also borne by him.

The maulvi, who was an Imam of the mosque, and his son Zahoor Ahmad were killed last month, when they were returning home. The family had alleged the two were killed by troops.
