Abhay Deol wants to feel like he is outside ‘with no bugs and the AC on’ in his Goa home

His vision for the place followed a simple brief: "When I'm looking at the person in front of me, I do not want to look at the ceiling, or want any windows."

Abhay Deol is a man of different flavours. On one hand, he wants to be connected to nature — immersing himself in deep meditation flanked by sound bowls, and on the other, the elaborate DJ equipment at his home gives us a peek into his life of the party persona.

“I keep myself busy. That’s what I love about my profession. It’s all about character development and reflection,” the Aisha actor revealed about himself in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter for their ‘Celebrity Corners’ segment.

Giving a tour of his glass house in Assago — the actor’s first house that he built from scratch — Abhay Deol shared his vision for the place as follows: “When I’m looking at the person in front of me, I do not want to look at the ceiling, or want any windows.”

He wanted to feel like he was one with the outdoors, but “with no bugs and the AC on”, revealed architects Vishakha Dholakia Chowdhry and Muninder Singh Chowdhry.

Deol’s home is an homage to his attempt at living a purposeful, minimalist, and meaningful life. Books and earthy furniture give it depth, while a flatscreen becomes the central element when hosting movie nights with family and friends. Blank canvases in the room also hint at his yet-uncovered hobby of painting.

Previously, in a YouTube video on Asian Paints’ Where The Heart Is series, the Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara actor took us around his Goa retreat.

Grey stony walls are peppered with abstract and modern art in vivid, vibrant contrasting hues. A bright orange sofa vies for attention amidst the lush verdant backdrop, barely covered by the transparent glass walls.

A long wooden dining table adds a rustic feel to the space, while the crystal blue water in the swimming pool outside is as inviting as refreshing. Earthy planters, quaint lampshades and trinkets collected from overseas travel add dimension to the space.
