Jackie Shroff, who recently celebrated his 68th birthday, follows a disciplined routine. The Baby John actor said he begins his morning with “medicinal plants” like paan ka patta (betel leaf), mango leaf, and more. “I eat all these leaves after I wake up in the morning. These are medicinal plants (herbs). I also have giloy with warm water, which is good for immunity. Mango leaf is also very beneficial. Then there is parijat (night jasmine), which is so bitter, but the value is so much,” Shroff shared.

He added, “Brahmi baby leaves are lethal. They are good for your tummy. For people like me who are from the wild…they can have. I like to have spices like cinnamon, clove, and cardamom. You can have it with warm water or include it in your coffee,” Shroff told GQ India.

Reflecting on the same, dietitian Samiksha Kalra said that Indian jadi buti, a term encompassing various herbs and plants used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine, is a “natural wonder” used for centuries to promote overall health and well-being. These include:

Digestive health

They help relieve constipation, improve digestion, and boost immunity. These herbs also have anti-inflammatory properties, which can help soothe digestive issues, said Kalra.

Stress relief and anxiety

Herbs like Ashwagandha, Brahmi, and Shankhpushpi are natural stress relievers. “They help reduce anxiety, improve sleep quality, and boost energy levels. These herbs also have adaptogenic properties, which enable them to adapt to the body’s specific needs,” said Kalra.

Respiratory health

Herbs like Tulsi and Pippali are known for their respiratory benefits. “They help relieve cough and congestion, support immune function, and have anti-inflammatory properties,” said Kalra.

Skin and hair benefits

Herbs like neem, amla, and bhringaraj are renowned for their skin and hair benefits. “They help treat acne, eczema, and other skin issues, promote healthy hair growth, and reduce dandruff,” said Kalra.

Immune system

Amla, Tulsi, and Ashwagandha are known for their immune-boosting properties. “They help support immune function, relieve stress and anxiety, and have anti-inflammatory properties,” said Kalra.

To reap the benefits of cinnamon, clove, cardamom, and black and white pepper, you can incorporate them into your diet in various ways:

*Consume teas made from these herbs
*Add them to your meals as spices or seasonings.

Always consult with a healthcare professional before using new herbal remedies, stressed Kalra.
