As per the data released by NTA, out of the total 12,66,509 applications released only 6,71,288 candidates appeared in the exam. The exam was conducted for 18 days in 35 unique shifts between 20 November 2021 to 5 January 2022.

Candidates will also have to pass each paper separately. In paper 1, unreserved category candidates will have to score 40 out of 100 while reserved category candidates have to score 35 out of 100. Of the 10,34,872 candidates who applied for the exam, 7,93,813 appeared for the UGC NET. Of these, 60147 candidates were eligible for an assistant professor while 5092 cleared the test for JRF. Those who clear JRF are eligible for the post of an assistant professor as well, however, the reverse is not applicable.
For paper 1 alone, general candidates have to score at least 40 marks out of 100 whereas EWS/SC/ST/OBC/PwD/Transgender candidates have to score at least 35 marks to qualify. All India Students’ Association (AISA) held a protest at the UGC headquarters against the alleged UGC-NET Hindi paper leak in Kurukshetra. "The UGC NET examination that is being conducted by the private and autonomous NTA must be conducted by UGC once again under full answerability to the public. The examination of NET examination for Hindi must be conducted once again at the earliest possible date,” it said.

The candidates who qualify for the award of JRF are eligible to pursue research in the subject of their post-graduation or in a related subject and are also eligible for Assistant Professor. The universities, institutions, IITs and other national organizations may select the JRF awardees for full-time research work in accordance with the procedure prescribed by them.
In UGC NET July 2019 result, a total of 4,756 candidates cleared for the JRF while 55,701 had cleared the NET for assistant professor only. In a press release issued on Wednesday, the newly appointed UGC chairman, M Jagadesh Kumar said that UGC is working closely with NTA and all efforts are being made to declare the UGC-NET results in a day or two.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) had decided to reconduct the Kannada paper for UGC-NET 2020-21. UGC NET exam for the Kannada paper could not be held at some centres due to technical issues, the NTA had said. For these candidates, the exam was held again.
NTA had rescheduled the UGC-NET December 2020 and June 2021 examination on December 5 due to the red alert issued in the states of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh for cyclone JAWAD. The exam was rescheduled for centres in the cities of Bhubaneshwar, Gunupur, Cuttack, Berhampur (Ganjam) Puri and Vishakhapatnam only.
