Members of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) allegedly killed three villagers terming them police informers in the Kanker district of Chhattisgarh’s Bastar region on Thursday, hours ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the Naxal-affected area.
According to the police, the killings took place sometime between Wednesday night and Thursday morning in Morkhandi village under the jurisdiction of Chotbetiya police station. The village is on the border of Maharashtra.
The deceased have been identified as Kulle Katlami, 35, Manoj Kovachi, 22, and Dugge Kovachi, 27. All three are residents of Morkhandi in Pakhanjur tehsil.
“The Maoists, through a pamphlet dropped at the crime spot, have alleged the trio were informers for C60 special force of Maharashtra police made for anti-Naxal operations,” said a police official.
PM Modi will address a rally in Kanker of Chhattisgarh where Assembly elections will be held in two phases on November 7 and November 17. Votes will be counted on December 3.
