PM Modi China Visit Highlights: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has landed in New Delhi after he concluded his visit to China after attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit and holding bilateral talks with global leaders, including Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russia’s Vladimir Putin. PM Modi said during his visit, he pressed on India’s stand on “key global issues” and called for shunning double standards in combating terrorism. After attending a bilateral meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, PM Modi said Putin will be visiting India in December. Commenting on the Russia-Ukraine war, PM Modi said, “All recent peace efforts on Ukraine crisis are welcome, I hope Russia and Ukraine moves forward to end the war soon.”
PM Modi at SCO summit: PM Modi Monday sent out a message against terrorism as he took the stage at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit. Modi said all the nations must stand unified against double standards in terrorism. Referring to the recent Pahalgam attack, he added that “we have seen the ugly face of terrorism recently in Pahalgam.” The SCO member-states condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April 2025 in a declaration.
Modi-Putin-Jinping informal meet: Ahead of the session commencement, Modi, Putin, and Chinese President Xi Jinping had an informal meet at the venue. “Always a delight to meet President Putin!,” the PM wrote on X. The two leaders are set to hold bilateral talks later today. Representatives of the member-countries stood for a group photo at the of Day 1 of the summit. Prime Minister stood in the front row, three places away from the host, Chinese President Xi Jinping and two places away from Russian President Vladimir Putin. Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Shariff was also in the front row for the group photo, eight places away from PM Modi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was offered a lift by Russian President Vladimir Putin in his AURUS limousine to reach the venue of their bilateral talks on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the two leaders had tete-a-tete in the car for about an hour. Modi also took to social media to share a photo of himself and the Russian president inside the limousine.
During his address at the SCO summit earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for shunning double standards in combating terrorism.

During their bilateral meet, Prime Minister Narendra Modi confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin will be visiting India in December.

The SCO member states condemned the military strikes by Israel in Gaza as "it has led to numerous casualties among the civilian population and a catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Strip."
The SCO member states also condemned attacks in Khuzdar and on Jaffer Express, both in Balochistan, Pakistan province.
It said the SCO, while reaffirming its firm commitment to the fight against terrorism, separatism and extremism, stresses the inadmissibility of attempts to use terrorist, separatist and extremist groups for "mercenary purposes".
"PM Modi highlighted India's approach to strengthening cooperation under the SCO framework & sought greater action under three pillars– Security, Connectivity and Opportunity. He called upon Member countries to take firm & decisive action to fight terrorism in all its manifestations," said the MEA in a post on X.
"The SCO Member countries adopted the Tianjin Declaration."
The SCO member-states condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April 2025 in a joint statement.
They said that perpetrators, organizers and sponsors of such attacks must be brought to justice. The member-states, while reaffirming their firm commitment to the fight against terrorism, separatism, and extremism, stress the inadmissibility of attempts to use terrorist, separatist and extremist groups for mercenary purposes. “Double standards in the fight against terrorism are unacceptable,” the statement read.
Chinese President Xi Jinping urged leaders at a regional summit to leverage their "mega-scale market" on Monday, while Russian President Vladimir Putin showed support for Xi's ambition for a new global security and economic order.
"We must take advantage of the mega-scale market... to improve the level of trade and investment facilitation," said Xi, urging the bloc to boost cooperation in fields including energy, infrastructure, science and technology, and artificial intelligence.
Putin said the grouping has revived "genuine multilateralism" with national currencies increasingly used in mutual settlements. "This, in turn, lays the political and socio-economic groundwork for the formation of a new system of stability and security in Eurasia," he said.
The bilateral meet between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin will begin shortly. The two shared a car from the summit venue to the venue of their meet. PM Modi posted on X saying, “After the proceedings at the SCO Summit venue, President Putin and I travelled together to the venue of our bilateral meeting. Conversations with him are always insightful.”
On the connectivity front, PM Modi said, “India has always believed that strong connectivity is not just for commerce, but also opens doors for trust and development.” In this context, he said that India has been working on Chabahar port and International North - South Transport Corridor, and they will help in gaining access to Afghanistan and Central Asia.
He said that connectivity efforts must respect territorial integrity and sovereignty — in a reference to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, under the Belt and Road Initiative of the Chinese President Xi Jinping.
“Connectivity, that bypasses sovereignty, loses trust and meaning,” he said
"Pahalgam strike was not only an attack on India, but it was an open challenge to countries, people believing in humanity," PM Modi said in his address at the SCO summit. "A natural question is if it acceptable to us that some nations openly support terrorism," he added.

"Terrorism is a collective challenge to humanity," said PM Modi at the SCO summit. "India has been emphasising on unity in fighting terrorism as no country and society can feel safe from this scourge."
He thanked all the nations that stood by Indian following the Pahalgam attack.
Russian President Putin says, "Crisis in Ukraine did not arise as a result on invasion, but as a result of a coup d-etat in Kyiv, supported by Ukraine's Western allies.
"Attempts by the West to drag Ukraine into NATO are one of the causes of the Ukraine crisis," he added.
