National Security Advisor Ajit Doval met Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin on Thursday, as part of a his visit to Russia.

A video shared by the Kremlin showed Doval shaking hands with Putin before holding talks.

Earlier, Doval met Russian Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu.

His trip comes ahead of a proposed visit by President Putin to India later this year, and coincided with rising tensions between Delhi and Washington. On the same day, US President Donald Trump issued an executive order imposing an additional 25% tariff on Indian goods, raising the total to 50%, in retaliation for India’s continued purchase of Russian oil.
