The campaign is being launched based on the call of the Prime Minister, wherein he requested the Indian diaspora members to encourage at least five non-Indian friends to travel to India.
Officials with Tourism Ministry told The Indian Express that the campaign is a formalisation of the PM’s call on several occasions to pitch for NRIs and overseas Indians to bring in their friends and associates to visit India and contribute to building brand India as a tourism destination.
A portal will be launched for the NRIs to register, along with the contact details, and details of the people they are nominating, who can be reached out directly by the Tourism Ministry with specific publicity material.
At the event at Bakshi Stadium, Modi will also launch multiple projects related to the tourism sector worth over Rs 1,400 crore under Swadesh Darshan and Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive schemes, including the project for Integrated Development of Hazratbal Shrine in the city. He will also launch the Dekho Apna Desh People’s Choice Tourist Destination Poll and announce tourist destinations selected under Challenge-Based Destination Development (CBDD) scheme.
The PM will announce 42 tourist destinations under the CBDD scheme, announced during the Union Budget 2023-24. The 42 destinations have been identified in four categories –16 in culture and heritage destination; 11 in spiritual destination; 10 in eco-tourism and Amrit Dharohar; and five in vibrant village.
