Malayalam actor Edavela Babu held for rape, released on bail

The rape allegations against Babu came earlier this year after Hema Committee report’s release. Several actors, including actor-MLA M Mukesh and Siddique, have been accused of rape following the report’s release last month.

Until he resigned in June, Babu had served as the general secretary of Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) for several years.

On Tuesday, M Mukesh was arrested and released on bail. In both cases, the complainant was the same. In her complaint, an actor claimed she had contacted Babu and Mukesh to get membership in AMMA in 2010.

Granting them anticipatory bail earlier this year, the court had noted the complainant’s statement did not show any use of force on the part of the accused. The complainant had “willingly” gone to Mukesh’s house in Kochi and had reportedly approached Babu for membership in AMMA.
