Bank Holiday Mahavir Jayanti: Banks in India will remain closed due to Mahavir Jayanti 2025, however, there has been some confusion regarding the exact date of the festival and the date of closure of banks.
The bank holidays in India are declared by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) under the Negotiable Instruments Act, taking into account regional and national holidays, as well as the mandatory weekly days off on the second and fourth Saturdays and every Sunday of the month.
According to the RBI Holiday Calendar for 2025, Mahavir Jayanti will be observed on Thursday, April 10. As a result, banks will be closed on that day. It’s important to note that this does not apply nationwide; check below where the banks will be opened or closed.
Banks in India will observe a closure on April 10 (Thursday) on account of Mahavir Jayanti in the cities of: Ahmedabad, Aizwal, Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhopal, Chennai, Jaipur, Kanpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, New Delhi, Raipur, Ranchi
Whereas, it’ll be open and functional in cities: Agartala, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Gangtok, Guwahati, Imphal, Itanagar, Jammu, Kochi, Kohima, Panaji, Patna, Shillong, Shimla, Srinagar, Thiruvananthapuram, and across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
However, online banking services shall continue to be operational without any hindrance, enabling people to do online transactions, bill payments and other online services available on digital platforms.
