Colonel (Retired) Pushpender Singh, one of the officers fasting in demand of the immediate implementation of One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme at Jantar Mantar, was hospitalised Monday— the ninth day of his fast. Singh was admitted to the ICU of Army Hospital Research and Referral. His condition is stable, said sources.
Havaldar (retired) Saheb Singh of 2 Rajputana Rifles would now fast in place of Colonel Singh. The ex-servicemen said the condition of the other two fasting veterans, Havaldar Major Singh and Havaldar Ashok Chauhan, is “fine so far”.

“At about 4 pm, doctors came for a regular check up and informed that Ketone level in Colonel Singh’s urine samples was high. While the officer insisted that he wanted to continue the fast, doctors said high Ketone levels could damage the brain. He was then taken to the hospital,” said Group Captain (retired) V K Gandhi, general secretary of the Indian Ex-Servicemen Movement. Gandhi said no representative from the government had so far inquired about Singh’s health.
Colonel Anil Kaul, spokesperson for United Front of Ex Servicemen said officials from the government and Delhi police tried to “hijack” the situation and take Colonel Singh to RML Hospital in an ambulance. “We refused and took him to the Army hospital in a private car.”
