Uttarakhand: 8 dead, 9 injured as vehicle falls into gorge

A vehicle fell into a deep gorge in Chakrata, in which killed 8 people, while 9 were injured.

A vehicle fell into a deep gorge in the town of Chakrata in Dehradun district of Uttarakhand. Around eight people are reported to be dead in the accident while nine have been injured.

Chakrata has been designated as one of the most accident-prone areas of the district of Dehradun by the district administration of the state.

Accidents such as the one on Sunday have happened in the past as well in the town. In January 2015, 3 people died, while another 3 were injured, when a car they were travelling fell into a 400 m deep gorge.

One of the worst accidents in Chakrata took place in August 2012, when 27 people died and 25 got injured after the bus in which they were travelling toppled and fell into a deep ditch, during the monsoon season.
