The Mumbai police are set to oppose the bail application of Rahul Raj Singh before the Bombay High Court, stating they require his custody for interrogation. Singh, booked on the charge of abetment to suicide of his actor girlfriend Pratyusha Banerjee, had been granted interim relief by the HC till Monday.

An officer said they require Singh’s custody to interrogate him on several aspects of Pratyusha’s life, including her finances. While granting interim relief to Singh on April 14, the court had asked him to appear before the Bangur Nagar police station for two hours every day till Monday.

“Two hours of custodial interrogation is not enough. We have not got much co-operation from him. Once we get his custody, we will be able to question him on a range of issues,” an officer said.

In their statement to the police, Pratyusha’s family members have made allegations that Singh was harassing her and did not allow her to meet them. They have alleged that it was his harassment that drove Pratyusha to suicide.

Talking to media persons on Sunday, Singh said the media should not declare him guilty already and should wait for the court to decide the case. Singh’s father Harshawardhan Singh said, “Let the police say what it wants to, let the media say what it wants to say. What can we do about it ? It is better we don’t talk.”

Meanwhile, the police said they were also waiting for reports of the mobile phones of Pratyusha and Singh, which they have sent for testing.

The police is hoping that it would help them see if there were any nasty exchange between the couple anytime before Pratyusha’s death.
