Years after his films were remade in Hindi as Rowdy Rathore and Kick, Ravi Teja says remakes are now ‘pointless’

Post pandemic, and especially with the rise of pan-India films, Ravi Teja feels doing remakes today have become pointless.

Actor Ravi Teja‘s Telugu blockbusters have made their way to Bollywood and given Hindi film stars huge hits too– but now is the time to stop the trend. The Telugu star feels there is no point in commissioning a remake today as the audience is anyway watching films in their original languages.

Ravi Teja’s 2006 hit actioner Vikramarkudu, directed by SS Rajamouli, was remade in Hindi as Rowdy Rathore, headlined by Akshay Kumar. Another Ravi Teja blockbuster, Kick, was remade in Hindi with the same name and featured superstar Salman Khan.

But post pandemic, and especially with the rise of pan-India films, Ravi Teja feels doing remakes today have become redundant. In an interview with Indianexpress.com, the star said, “No remakes today, no point in that. We are watching films in all languages today. Every film today is releasing in five languages. Only the old, 70s films can be remade I think. Today directors like Rohit Shetty and Karan Johar give the audience a nostalgic treat but only that kind of thing can work.”

Ravi Teja is currently gearing up for the release of his next biggie, Tiger Nageswara Rao. The Telugu period action thriller is written and directed by Vamsee and produced by Abhishek Agarwal.

Gearing up for a wide release on October 20, Ravi Teja says he is confident the film is going to impress the audiences as a good action film will always land well. “People love action films. Take this year’s example, Pathaan, Gadar 2, Jawan, all big action films. People in India love action films. If I am not wrong 88 percent love action films. Ye jo dhaarmik film shoti hai, unki audience kam hoti hai. Action films have an audience.”

Tiger Nageswara Rao also stars Anupam Kher, Nupur Sanon, Renu Desai, Jisshu Sengupta, Gayatri Bhardwaj and Murali Sharma. The film will release in Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada and Malayalam.
