Double iSmart release date announced: Watch Ram Pothineni return to his rugged iSmart Shankar look

iSmart Shankar is a watershed moment not just for Telugu star Ram Pothineni, but also for veteran director Puri Jagannadh. While it turned out to be the biggest hit in the actor’s career, it revived the waning trajectory of the director’s career, who has churned out some record-breaking Telugu films like Pokiri, Businessman, Temper, and Badri. After the success of iSmart Shankar, the director went on to direct Vijay Deverakonda in Liger, which bombed at the box office. Now, he is back to the world of iSmart Shankar for a sequel.

A video of Ram Pothineni getting ready for the upcoming film was revealed online along with the release date of the film, which is yet to go on the floors. In the video, Ram gets an image makeover and goes back to the rugged look that he was seen in iSmart Shankar. The sequel of the film is titled Double iSmart, and it will be released on March 8, 2024.

iSmart Shankar is a low-budget-high-concept film, which was produced by Puri Jagannadh and his partner Charmme Kaur. The sci-fi film follows the story of a hitman getting implanted with memories of a deceased CBI officer. With memories of two people, the protagonist avenges the death of his lover and also solves a political murder. The film received negative reviews from critics but turned out to be a hit among the audience. It earned close to Rs 80 crores at the box office. Both Puri Jagannadh and Ram Pothineni are going through a rough patch currently, and all eyes are on the sequel to see if it once again comes to the rescue of the actor and the director.
