India’s Best Dancer 3 got its winner in Samarpan Lama On Saturday. The young dancer from Pune was pitted against Shivanshu Soni, Vipul Kandpal, Aniket Chauhan and Anjali Mamgai. Apart from the trophy, he took home a Rs 15 lakh cash prize, while his choreographer Bhawna Khanduja was awarded a cheque of Rs 5 lakh.

The finale episode saw one of Bollywood’s most prolific dancers, Govinda on the stage, while Tiger Shroff and Kriti Sanon also joined the team to promote their film Ganapath.

Having already earned the title of ‘King of Contemporary’, Lama’s journey on India’s Best Dancer has been quite a roller-coaster one. While he has been a favourite since the beginning, Lama also saw some low moments when his performances were not up to the mark.

The highlights of his journey included a touching gesture by Remo D’Souza, who gifted him a pair of shoes as a token of respect for his dance talent. Also, Lama reunited with his father, who works abroad, on the reality show stage after a gap of 17 long years.

Talking about his big win, Samarpan Lama told indianexpress.com how he had not expected to win the show, given everyone in the finale was quite talented. He shared that he was in disbelief when his name was announced but as and when the news sunk in, he has been rejoicing on his big win.

Given that contemporary dance form is more artistic than dramatic, we wondered if he ever felt he had a disadvantage in the competition. “Not at all. I did try other dance forms, thanks to my choreographers. I think if planned and choreographed well, contemporary dance can create the same magic on stage as other forms.”

The winner also spoke about the importance of a reality show in his life, sharing that he could have never reached so many people in one go. He said, “I know people say that reality shows were popular earlier but as a young dancer, I couldn’t have asked for a better stage. India’s Best Dancer not only gave me a platform to showcase my talent but also honed my skills. The choreographers, judges, and even the contestants have added so much to my life. I am going back as a better version of myself and I hope to only get better with time.”
