Amitabh Bachchan’s look on Kaun Banega Crorepati made people buy three-piece suits, jodhpuris: KBC stylist

Priya started her career as a stylist and was working with a production house doing reality TV shows when Kaun Banega Crorepati came her way. She shared that it has been a growth arc working with Bachchan. Calling Amitabh Bachchan larger than life, Priya said that it’s always an overwhelming experience to put together a look for him, and it continues to excite her.

Amitabh Bachchan’s look on KBC 15

Talking about the latest season of the show that promises a lot of ‘badlav’, the stylist shared that for her changes don’t always have to be drastic. “I think KBC is one show where the focus is on the person sitting in that hot seat. It’s about the change that it brings in someone’s life. It’s a serious show so we have set his look this time with a suitable colour palette. We have also used a lot of contrasts this time with black and wine, and blue and orange. There’s going to be detailings on his collars and I am also working with some new silhouettes. So be it tassels with tuxedos or a scarf and stole with Jodhpuris that’s held with brooches. We would be bringing a lot of freshness to his look.”

She also shared how it’s difficult to style for a show like KBC as the host has to be seated the entire time. Priya said that there are a lot of times when some costumes failed because of creases and discomfort. “A look that is great may not translate well when the person is sitting. Also, we need to understand that comfort becomes a priority during that position. We also need to keep in mind how the audience is reacting to a particular look. Like I remember when we did tie and bows, everyone started wearing it. Sir also adds a lot of his own touches, such as his fun shoes and socks.”

Elaborating on the same, the designer said that it’s the actor who brings those fun elements. She added that apart from comfort it also adds freshness to his look. Calling him an inspiration for every generation, she shared how his attention to detail is learning. “When he goes on the floor there is no distraction. He is so faithful to what he does and the energy that he has is so amazing to witness,” she said. But is Amitabh Bachchan picky about his looks? To this, she replied, “Everyone should be picky, especially in terms of comfort. I think that’s what makes good fashion. However, I must add that I don’t wait for him to tell me that as I feel that it’s my responsibility to make sure he’s comfortable. I always want him to focus on the show and not on the clothes.”

Is Big B picky about his costumes?

Priya also recalled how Jaya Bachchan had revealed on the show once how she doesn’t like maroon-brown and violet on him. Sharing that fashion is very subjective and while she is mindful of everyone’s opinions, she also has to work according to what works best technically. “He doesn’t like browns and he’s said that, so I avoid it. He loves black so we use that quite a lot and I also feel he looks great in navy blues. Of course, I work with what makes him happy but this time, I have also played with pastel shades and contrasts.”

Kaun Banega Crorepati 15 is airing on Sony TV. This Friday, son Abhishek Bachchan will join Amitabh Bachchan on the game show to promote his film Ghoomer. His director R Balki and co-star Sayami Kher will also be present.
