Actor Suriya who is all set to be seen in the magnum opus Kanguva recently opened up about his love story with Jyotika. Suriya also revealed how he had his share of struggles in his career, but his wife Jyotika skyrocketed to success very soon, which made him realize where he was in life at that moment. In an interview with Mashable India, Suriya also spoke about his family shifting to Mumbai recently and how he is not recognised in the city and had to introduce himself at his kids’ school where people had no idea who he was. Suriya told Mashable, “Jyotika worked with me in her first Tamil film, after Doli Sajaa Ke Rakhna in Hindi, her second film was with me. After that, we were good friends, and there was mutual respect. I knew Tamil, I was supposed to be an actor’s son, but I was fumbling, forgetting my lines, and I didn’t know how to act. It was my third or fourth film. I had a lot of respect for her work ethic, she would know the lines better than me. She would learn them by heart and was quite sincere.”
He also added, “Also, she skyrocketed to success and I took five years to stabilize, it took me some time to call myself a hero and have my own market. In Kaakha Kaakha, her salary was three times higher than mine. I also realized that time where I was in life. She was ready to be a part of my life, her parents had also agreed and I realised what I am earning and what she was earning. I realised I had to pull my socks and I had to be equal to her, at least be able to protect them; eventually it all happened.”
Suriya also revealed why Jyotika shifted to Mumbai. He said, “Mumbai is home, her family is here. Jyotika is spending a lot of time with her parents, who are a little bit older than my parents. Jyotika was 18 when she left the city and then she was with me in Chennai for 27 years, so I thought it was only right if she spent time with her parents. The kids chose the IB syllabus, and Chennai just had one or two schools for that.”
He added that many don’t know who he is in the city, “It is nice when I go to school, this would also happen in Chennai, you realize that not everybody is going to recognize you. I have to introduce myself, and of course, they don’t ask about my profession, the conversation ends at I am Suriya from Chennai. It feels good not to be known as an actor because the conversations are very different after that,” he added.
Kanguva is a Tamil action-fantasy film that stars Suriya as well as Bobby Deol. The film is slated to release on 14th November.
