A week ago, Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan travelled to parts of central Tamil Nadu like Trichy, Thanjavur, and Kumbakonam to visit temples there. Wherever the celebrity couple went, they were surrounded by mobs of fans, who wanted to take selfies and pictures. Now, a video of Nayanthara and Vignesh boarding a train at Trichy Railway Junction to get back to Chennai is making the rounds of social media. In the clip, Nayan loses her cool and lashes out at a fan who keeps recording her despite her protest.
Despite police security, the couple were mobbed by people at the railway station, and Nayanthara can be seen visibly frustrated. As she gets on the train, she stares at a fan who continues to record her, and Nayanthara tells him, “That’s the limit. I will break the phone.”
The clip has gone viral on social media sparking the age-old debate about whether or not celebrities should expect private space in public or if it is the cost they pay for their stardom. While many have come in support of Nayanthara and claimed that the public should respect stars’ private space, many commented that the couple should have opted for private transportation if they are particular about privacy. Another section lashed out at fans for treating actors as demigods and stalking them.
Ajith Kumar and Sivakumar are other Tamil actors who have earlier been criticised for their rude behaviour towards fans. Once Sivakumar knocked the mobile phone off a fan’s hand when he tried to take a selfie with the veteran actor. Similarly, Ajith also snatched the phone from a fan while the latter attempted to take a selfie while the actor was on his way to cast his vote in the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly Election.
