Coolie Box Office Collection Worldwide Day 9: Rajinikanth’s highly anticipated film Coolie has officially entered its second week with domestic earnings crossing the Rs 200 crore mark. However, the film is now witnessing a steady decline in collections, raising concerns over its long-term box office prospects. For four consecutive days, the movie’s earnings have remained in single digits. As per early estimates from industry tracker Sacnilk, Coolie earned Rs 5.5 crore on Day 9, bringing its total domestic collection to Rs 235.15 crore. While this is a commendable figure on paper, it falls short of expectations, especially for a film touted as one of the biggest releases of the year and marking the high-profile collaboration between superstar Rajinikanth and fan-favourite director Lokesh Kanagaraj.

On Day 9, Coolie recorded an overall Tamil occupancy of 20.39%. The day began with just 12.33% occupancy in morning shows, climbed slightly to 17.07% in the afternoon, rose to 23.09% in the evening, and concluded with a somewhat disappointing 29.06% during night shows. Region-wise, Chennai led with the highest occupancy at 31.00%, followed by Vellore at 25.75%.

 Day   India Net Collection
 Day 1  Rs  65 Cr
 Day 2  Rs 54.75 Cr
 Day 3  Rs 39.5 Cr
 Day 4  Rs 35.25 Cr
 Day 5  Rs 12 Cr
 Day 6  Rs 9.5 Cr
 Day 7  Rs 7.5 Cr
 Day 8  Rs 6.15 Cr
 Day 9  Rs 5.50 Cr
 Total Collection  Rs 235.15 Cr

Though Coolie has outperformed its immediate competitor War 2, which managed Rs 208.25 crore in its nine-day run, it lags behind previous Rajinikanth blockbusters. His 2023 film Jailer had earned Rs 245.90 crore in the same time frame, while the sci-fi epic 2.0 clocked Rs 314.25 crore in its first nine days. Even Lokesh Kanagaraj’s last outing Leo fared better, collecting Rs 271.90 crore by this point in its run.

Globally, Coolie has reportedly crossed Rs 439 crore globally and is projected to breach the Rs 500 crore milestone by the end of the weekend. However, these figures are tempered by the film’s massive reported budget of over Rs 300 crore, half of which was reportedly Rajinikanth’s fee. Despite its global earnings, the film has yet to recover its production costs in India, raising questions about its profitability.

All eyes are now on Jailer 2, which is hoped to bring back the winning streak for both Rajinikanth and his distributors.
