Basil Joseph seems to be a man on a mission. Every few weeks, he has a release, and each one turns out to be a solid outing for the actor, providing decent returns for the makers as well. Close on the heels of his recent film Pravinkoodu Shaapu, Basil is back with yet another gripping drama, Ponman. The makers of Ponman, which marks the directorial debut of noted production designer Jothish Shankar, recently released the teaser of the movie ahead of its premiere on January 30.
In the teaser, we are introduced to the worlds of Ajesh (Basil Joseph) and Mariyan (Sajin Gopu), and how the titular ‘gold’ plays a pivotal role in their lives, and the lives of the people around them. The intense teaser promises an ego clash between the principal protagonists, and it has all the makings of a revamping of the images of Basil Joseph and Sajin Gopu, who are known for their relatively light-hearted roles.
Here’s the teaser:
Based on GR Indugopan’s Nalanchu Cheruppakar, Ponman, which was initially supposed to hit the screens on February 6, also stars Lijomol Jose, Deepak Parambol, and Anand Manmadhan. Backed by Vinayaka Ajith under the Ajith Vinayaka Films banner, the movie has music by Justin Varghese, and is shot by director-cinematographer Sanu John Varghese.
After completing so many acting assignments over the past few years, Basil Joseph is set to take a break from acting soon to concentrate on his direction. In recent interviews, he opened up about starting the pre-production of his upcoming directorial ventures. Basil is also set to complete a couple of other scripts. He is speculated to be moving to Hindi cinema to make a superhero film. However, nothing has been officially confirmed by Basil.
