Actor Anil Kapoor’s daughter Sonam Kapoor is a well-known actor like her father. But not many know how Anil decided to name her. During Anil’s appearance on Kaun Banega Crorepati, the actor told host, Amitabh Bachchan, that he didn’t know that Sonam meant gold. When a shocked Amitabh asked the reason behind giving his daughter this name, Anil narrated an interesting story.
While playing the quiz, a question asked ‘which of the following names means ‘gold-like’ and one of the options was Sonam. To this, Anil revealed that he didn’t know his daughter’s name also meant gold at the time of naming her. “Kya soch ke naam rakha tha (So, what did you think before naming her?)”
Amitabh asked the story behind Sonam Kapoor’s name and Anil said in jest, “Maine zyada socha nahi tha. (I didn’t think much)”
The Mr India actor then said, “I was in Ladakh shooting for Joshile. Waha ek ladki thi Sonam. She was a very nice girl, very sweet girl and she was differently abled. To mujhko wo ladki bohot achi lagi, bohot innocent lagi. To maine kaha ki agar meri beti hui to main uska naam Sonam rakhunga. Ladakhi mein Sonam ka matlab hota hai lucky (There was a nice. I really liked that girl and I decided that if I have a daughter, I will name her Sonam).”
Anil then shared that in the local language of Ladakh, Sonam means “lucky”. He said, “Ladakhi mein Sonam ka matlab hota hai lucky.” Amitabh Bachchan was entertained by this story.
On the work front, Anil was recently seen in Siddharth Anand’s Fighter. Amitabh on the other hand will next be seen pan India film Kalki 2898AD, directed by Nag Ashwin. The film will bring Amitabh and Kamal Haasan together on the big screen after several years,
