Actor Vikrant Massey recently took to social media to announce he will be taking a long sabbatical. Massey said that he would appear in his last two films in 2025, after which he would be away from the arch-lights until the time was right to return. Initially many assumed that the actor had announced his retirement, however, he later clarified that he was just taking a break. As shocking as this is, the actor seemed content with his 20-year-long journey when he spoke with SCREEN in the very first episode of Dear Me.
Talking about his journey and playing such emotionally heavy roles, Vikrant Massey said, “I choose layered characters because I don’t like unidimensional characters. All of us have so many layers as people also. I am not just an actor, but a son, a father, a brother, a husband, and also a friend to someone. There are so many things I am in my life. How can I be unidimensional? I also realize that I am lucky to be acting in this time, especially in the last 10 years. There are far more real stories being written and watched by people. So I feel blessed to be a part of this time where relevant stories are being told, and I get to be a part of them.”

Vikrant Massey has had a phenomenal 2023 and 2024, with the actor proving his mettle with stellar performances in 12th Fail and Sector 36. Sharing how important the success of 12th Fail was for him in terms of getting validation, he said, “Validation from the industry has come in, and I was longing for it. I always backed myself and continue to do so, but it was very important for me, deep within me, I had this urge to be validated by more people and not just be labelled an alternate actor. 12th Fail’s commercial success was important to me. There are a lot more roles coming my way, and a lot many producers want to work with me now. I wanted that. I am happy, but I also know it’s all very temporary and people change with time. The idea is to keep working towards what your larger desires are and in my case, it is to be consistent with what I do as an actor.”
Vikrant Massey also talked about how he has dealt with success or even failure for that matter. “My mechanism to deal with success and failure is the same. I don’t take either very seriously. Everything is so temporary in life. I have seen people change like the weather in success and failure. I move on very quickly and don’t sit with either for too long. The same things can change equally fast the moment you trip again and are back to where you began.”
Sharing how he consciously tried to avoid getting typecast, Vikrant said, “It happens. Everyone goes through this. I have been seen as the guy next door, but the idea as an actor is to strive for nobody to bracket you. Hence I chose a film like 12th Fail and Sector 36 in one calendar year. It is for me to not get bored by the roles I am playing. Eventually, most importantly, for the audience to see you in a different light from time to time. You strive for versatility sometimes you land, sometimes you don’t.”
On a parting note, Vikrant remarked, “God has been kind, I have gotten much more than what I had asked for. I am truly grateful for that.”
