The hills have friends, and friends always have a story to tell. The trailer of the much-awaited live action musical, The Archies, dropped on Thursday, finally giving fans a sneak peek into the fantastical world of the movie which marks the debut of actor Suhana Khan, Agastya Nanda, Khushi Kapoor among others.

Billed as a coming-of-age musical, the film follows the lives of Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead, Reggie, Ethel and Dilton. The Archies marks the acting debut of Shah Rukh Khan’s daughter Suhana Khan, megastar Amitabh Bachchan’s grandson Agastya Nanda and actor Sridevi and film producer Boney Kapoor’s daughter Khushi Kapoor. The Archies also stars Mihir Ahuja, Dot., Vedang Raina and Yuvraj Menda.

The Indian adaptation of the beloved classic is seen through the lens of the Anglo-Indian community as the group of teenagers wrestle with love, heartache, friendship and rebellion. The Archies trailer offers a glimpse into the world of the film, set in the fictional hilly town of Riverdale, in the ’60s India.

The over 2-minute-long clip begins with introduction of the primary characters, including Veronica (Suhana), Betty (Khushi), Archie (Agastya) and the gang as they navigate teenage with fun, music and style. But like all tales, there is a twist and the friends must team up stronger than before to save their town, community and in the process, find themselves.

The Archies trailer packs in an inherent freshness in its pitch and carries a light and happy vibe, true to the YA genre. The tone and setting, especially, is refreshing when compared to what the Indian OTT landscape has witnessed.

The Archies is backed by Zoya and filmmaker Reema Kagti through their production house Tiger Baby, Graphic India and Archie Comics. The film is directed by Zoya, who has co-written it with Reema and Ayesha Devitre. The Archies will stream on Netflix from December 7.
