Is Ranbir Kapoor ready to play Lord Ram in Ramayana? The actor says the big scale ambitious on-screen adaptation of the epic is still a long away ahead but hopes the film materialises soon.

The Ramayana adaptation will be directed by Nitesh Tiwari, known for Dangal, Chhichhore and Bawal, and is rumoured to star Ranbir as Lord Ram. The film is likely to feature Sai Pallavi as Sita while KGF star Yash will be seen as Ravana.

While the industry is abuzz that the movie is set go on floors early next year, Ranbir Kapoor, in a recent Zoom interaction, said nothing has been “finalised” as of yet.

“Ramayana is such a big project, where a lot of work is needed behind it. Nothing has been finalised. I hope it is done soon. As of now, I have been hearing a lot of subjects but nothing (is locked),” he said. The actor also opened up about the rumoured Kishore Kumar biopic to be directed by Anurag Basu.

“Even the Kishore Kumar biopic that Anurag Basu has been working on for many years. I am going to hear the script by the end of this month. But there’s nothing that I have liked yet,” the actor said.

During the same interaction, Ranbir Kapoor also revealed to his fans that he is going through a lifestyle change, which involves quitting smoking. “For Animal, I had shaved my hair! For the last scene, I had done that. So now I am growing my hair. Since I am not working on any film, I am eating a lot, not following any diet. I have changed my entire lifestyle. I have quit smoking, so I am eating a lot of chocolates.”

The actor is currently awaiting the release of his next feature, Animal. The action thriller has been directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, known for Arjun Reddy and Kabir Singh. Ranbir said the filmmaker has an “original” voice and added that it is the darkest film of his career.

“Working with Sandeep has been such an enriching experience for me as an actor because he is so original. There is nothing referenced in his films. Everything I was doing in Animal as that character was so new. This is the darkest film I have done, because I am not playing any psycho killer in it. It is just the character, his mind and the way he operates… His psyche is very dark.

“It is not somebody who I am or can relate to. It was very interesting for me to play him on screen because it was a very new, original character. I am glad I collaborated with Sandeep on this because I got a lot from him, about heroism, about characters and about a grey part like this,” Ranbir said.

Animal also stars Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna and Tripti Dimri. The film is gearing up for a grand December 1 release.
