Aamir Khan has officially put an end to the speculations surrounding his collaboration with Sunny Deol in a recent post on Aamir Khan Productions (AKP). The production house confirmed bankrolling Sunny Deol’s next film Lahore 1947, which will be directed by renowned filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi.
In an enthusiastic announcement, Aamir Khan expressed his excitement about the project. He wrote, “I and the entire team at AKP, are most excited and happy to announce our next, starring Sunny Deol, directed by Raj Kumar Santoshi, titled Lahore, 1947. We look forward to collaborating with the immensely talented Sunny and one of favourite directors Raj Santoshi. The journey we have embarked on promises to be most enriching.”
What adds an interesting twist to this collaboration is the history between Rajkumar Santoshi, Sunny Deol and Aamir Khan. Interestingly, Santoshi made his directorial debut with Sunny Deol’s 1990 film Ghayal. The film was a massive success at the box office. The duo later delivered two more blockbusters, these include the Damini (1993) and Ghatak (1996). Rajkumar Santoshi has also delivered a massively hit film, Andaz Apna Apna (1994), with Aamir. The film, which also starred Salman Khan in the lead role, went on to become a cult classic.
Sunny’s previous release Gadar 2 was a massive success at the box office. The film broke many box office record. After breaking Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’s box office record, the film toppled Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan from the top spot as it earned Rs 524.75 crore in its seventh week. The film is only a few lakhs ahead of Pathaan, which collected a sum of Rs 524.53 crore in the Hindi-speaking market.
