Actor-comedian Kapil Sharma moved from Punjab to Mumbai with the dream of becoming a singer. But with his quick-witted humour and hilarious one-liners, he managed to change the face of comedy on Indian television with his shows, Comedy Nights With Kapil and The Kapil Sharma Show. On his shows, he never shies away from cracking a joke or two on himself as well. He often makes fun of himself for his poor hold on the English language. Recently, Kapil shared that he started doing that so that nobody else can do it.

Kapil revealed that when he moved to Mumbai he would often keep quiet when people conversed in English. But he realised that staying quiet will not help him. He told Bollywood Bubble in a new interview, “Earlier when I came to Bombay and heard four people talking in English, toh lagta tha saare English bol rahe hain, hum kya karein (Everyone is talking in English, what should I do)”.

However, the comedian found a way of overcoming his fear of the language. Kapil added, “But slowly I realised, ki vo toh jab aayegi tab aayegi, tab tak kya main social hona chodd dunga (I will learn the language when I will learn it but till then, will I stop socialising). So, I started making fun of myself because once you crack a joke on yourself, nobody else will be able to do that. That is how I overcame that fear.”

After entertaining the audience with his standup comedy in shows like The Great Indian Laughter Challenge and Comedy Circus, he hosted standalone shows, Comedy Nights With Kapil and The Kapil Sharma Show. Though he has met many people on his shows and has impressed them with his witty remarks, he still gets a bit nervous when he is around someone he is a fan of.

He shared, “Even today if I meet someone I am a fan of, I become a little..hum toh unhe dekhte hi hain, par unki nazar na hi pade humpe toh hi better hai, agar padd gayi, toh kya baat karenge..(We watch of whom we are a fan but I hope they never watch me, because if I do, what will I say)”.

Kapil Sharma is currently busy promoting his film Zwigato, which hit the theaters on Friday. Helmed by Nandita Das, the film has Kapil in the role of the food delivery boy.
