Kabir Bedi has never been shy about discussing his personal life and in a recent interview, when Kabor was asked if his many serious relationships, and four marriages, “empowered” an entire generation to “switch over” in relationships, he smiled and admitted that he was “indiscriminate” about the choice of women in his life. Kabir, who called himself an “emotional fool”, also shared that even though he had many serious relationships, none of them were one night stands, and almost all of them were long, healthy relationships that ended on a good note.
In a chat with BBC Hindi, Kabir said, “Who am I to empower others? But I will admit that there were times when I was indiscriminate in my choice of women. But if I am equally honest, if I look at my significant relationships, none of these were one-night stands.” Kabir then spoke about his four marriages and said, “My first marriage lasted for 7 years. My second marriage also lasted for around 7-8 years. Third marriage lasted for 15 years. My current marriage with Parveen Dosanjh, we have been together for 19 years. We have only been married for 9 years but before that, we were together for 10 years.”
Kabir said that there is a photo from a Christmas dinner in his book, Stories I Must Tell: The Emotional Life of an Actor, where his first three wives are posing together celebrating Christmas. “There is a photo in my book of a Christmas dinner that is being attended by my wife and two of my ex-wives. Three wives under a Christmas tree celebrating Christmas together. There were no bad feelings. I don’t know if you want to call it a big or small achievement, but it will be called an achievement surely,” he said.
Kabir first married Protima Bedi in 1969. In the same chat, he shared that before they got married, he and Protima lived together and it caused a “huge scandal.” They separated in 1974. He then married Susan Humphreys in 1980, and they were married for a decade. His third wife was Nikki Bedi, whom he married in 1992, and they divorced in 2005. Kabir and Parveen have been married since 2016.
