After delivering her lowest box-office opening in a decade, Alia Bhatt’s Jigra showed a 43 percent increase in earnings on Saturday, collecting Rs 6.55 crore. However, despite expectations for sustained growth on Sunday, the film only managed to earn Rs 5.34 crore, according to early estimates by Sacnilk. Jigra first weekend box office collection has earned Rs 16.75 crore in India, still falling short of the Rs 20 crore milestone.

Jigra has earned Rs 17.20 crore globally, according to Sacnilk. The film faces strong competition from Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri’s Vicky Aur Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, which released on the same day and outperformed Jigra with a first-day collection of Rs 5.5 crore, compared to Jigra’s Rs 4.55 crore opening. Currently, Vicky Aur Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video holds a domestic total of Rs 18.65 crore, placing it ahead in box office performance.

Alia Bhatt, known for leading successful female-centric films such as Gangubai Kathiawadi and Raazi, was expected to add another hit to her repertoire with this jailbreak action drama. However, negative reviews and controversy have hampered Jigra’s performance. Recently, Divya Khosla Kumar took to Instagram, accusing Alia Bhatt and producer Karan Johar of inflating box office numbers by purchasing tickets. Karan Johar appeared to respond indirectly with a cryptic Instagram story, stating, “Silence is the best speech you will ever give to fools.”

Jigra, co-produced by Alia Bhatt and Karan Johar, falls short of their last collaboration, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, which garnered Rs 45.9 crore in its first three days. Alia’s previous solo success, Gangubai Kathiawadi, managed to bring in Rs 49.44 crore in the same period, further emphasising Jigra’s underwhelming performance.

On Sunday, Jigra registered an overall Hindi occupancy rate of 26.57 percent, with evening shows peaking at 35.43 percent. The film has over 2800 screenings across the country, with Mumbai hosting 512 shows and seeing a 38 percent occupancy rate. Chennai had the highest occupancy at 79.5 percent across its 28 screenings, while Bengaluru’s 196 shows maintained a 60.25 percent rate. Despite having the most screenings at 780, Delhi NCR reported only a 24.75 percent occupancy rate.
