Sunny Deol-starrer Gadar 2 had been ruling the Indian box office since its release in August. However, the film faced a setback with the arrival of Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan on September 7. Gadar 2 had a strong start, earning Rs 40.1 crore on its opening day on August 11. The film peaked on Independence Day, when it made Rs 55 crore.
However, with the release of Jawan, its daily collections have dropped significantly. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film is expected to make around Rs 1 crore on day 29, which is its lowest single-day collection since its release. The total collection of the film now stand at Rs 511 crore.
Jawan had an impressive opening day at the box office, raking in a staggering Rs 75 crore all across India. This includes Rs 65 crore nett in Hindi, Rs 5 crore nett in Tamil, and Rs 5 crore nett in Telugu. The movie has set a new record as the biggest Hindi opener of all time, surpassing SRK’s Pathaan, which earned Rs 57 crore on its first day. Even as it chases Pathaan’s all-time record of Rs 543 crore, Gadar 2 has now passed Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’s Rs 510 lifetime collection in the Hindi belt.
However, Gadar 2 has outperformed SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2, which had a lifetime collection of Rs 510.99 crore in 2017, as reported by Bollywood Hungama.
Helmed by Anil Sharma, Sunny and Ameesha Patel reprise their roles as Tara Singh and Sakeena in Gadar 2. The film also stars Utkarsh Sharna, Gaurav Chopra, Manish Wadhwa, Manoj Bakshi, Simrat Kaur, Luv Sinha, Rohit Chaudhary, and Rakesh Bedi. The film is a sequel to the hit film Gadar: Ek Prem Katha.
Indian Express critic Shubhra Gupta gave the film 1.5 stars. A part of the review read, “Gadar 2 is exactly in the same mould as the original, with the high-on-patriotism Tara Singh going on a rampage in Pakistan again, this time to rescue his strapping son (Sharma) from the clutches of the cruel Major General Hamid Iqbal (Wadhwa).”
