Veteran actor Dharmendra spoke about the Deols not receiving due credit for their contribution to Hindi cinema a few days back. Recently, his daughter Esha Deol said she “respects” what her father said. However, she also agreed that her family takes their work seriously irrespective of getting recognition or not.

While talking about the success of his son Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2, Dharmendra told Times Now, “But my family has never been given our due.” He said that his family thrives on the love of their fans and “don’t mind” the industry not recognising their contribution.

In a recent interview with Lehren Retro, Esha Deol was asked about her father’s statement. She replied, “If he is saying this, I respect it.” But, like her father, she also said that her family is not affected by the industry not acknowledging their work. She added, “Mila ya nahi mila, we all work very hard and we take our work seriously.”

The Dhoom star also spoke about her equation with her father, which has changed over the years. Revealing that her mother is the stricter parent, Esha said, “Papa used to be strict before, but now we have built a strong bond. It’s more of a friendship.”

Esha Deol and Dharmendra shared the screen in Hema Malini’s production venture Tell Me O Kkhuda. Working with her father was a surreal experience for Esha as she shared, “It was a sweet experience. I had done shows with mummy before, but with papa it was the first time. Saying dialogues in front of him was…I was very emotional about sharing the screen with him, but I never let it show on my face.”

Esha Deol is currently celebrating the special mention of her short film Ek Duaa at the 69th National Award in the Non-Feature Films category.
