Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor has revealed that he, along with his kids, Rhea and Harshvarrdhan Kapoor, strives to create original content and steer clear of remakes. Anil, who was recently seen in the Indian adaptation of The Night Manager, expressed his belief that remakes make one’s brain ‘lazy’. He also emphasised how challenging it is to produce original content and highlighted their dedication to the process.

In an interview with Film Companion, Anil said, “I like to create a lot of content, original content. In our family, there was a time when we used to do that and then suddenly we went into trying to make remakes. I feel a lot of filmmakers are doing that (today). For me, I feel that was not a good thing to do because somewhere I think it just makes your brain a little lazy. After all, making original content is very, very tough.”

He added, “Especially Riya and Harsh, they are trying their best to do content which is completely original and not adaptations. And, I am also enjoying their process of creating original content.”

Talking about taking on projects that are remakes, Anil said, “Sometimes as a business, certain things like, 24 and The Night Manager, they’re adaptations, come up. I’m not going to say ‘no’ because it works for me creatively and in terms of playing it a bit safe. But as a creator, you want to do things which are original, which is a lot of fun, a lot of pain, sometimes takes five to six years to lock it, because you’re creating from scratch.”

On the work front, Anil was last seen in The Night Manager, opposite Aditya Roy Kapur and Sobhita Dhulipala. Anil portrayed the character of arms dealer Shelly Rungta in the show, which later emerged as a hit. The actor will next be seen in Animal, alongside Ranbir Kapoor.
