Agastya Nanda, grandson of legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan and son of Shweta Bachchan, recently made his Bollywood debut in Zoya Akhtar’s film The Archies. Despite hailing from a film family, Agastya revealed in a recent interview with Film Companion that he remained unaware of his grandfather’s immense fame for years.

According to Agastya, the Bachchan family maintained a tradition of not bringing work discussions home. He said, “The way my family has been, they don’t bring work home. My nana never spoke about work at home. So, I found it very normal. I thought, ‘Okay, he’s a normal granddad,’ but I only realised when he came to school on annual day that, ‘Oh god, he is someone.’ It was so normal up till then.”

Talking about how he got to know about his grandfather’s popularity, he said, “(We had) grandparents day in school in Delhi. When he’d show up, everyone would go crazy and I just couldn’t understand why everyone was going crazy. That’s when I realised. And then, of course, when I started watching cinema, I was like, ‘Okay, he’s kind of good at this.”

During the interview, Agastya confessed of falling in love with cinema while working on The Archies. He said, “I always liked cinema, but close to Archies, I started loving it. This is something I did purely from heart. I’m so grateful to have got this opportunity without having to do acting school and all that. I probably didn’t deserve it. If I can do this with my heart, now, if I add skill and craft with time, this can become something that I really enjoy and love.”

Apart from Agastya, The Archies also marked the acting debut of other star-kids like Boney Kapoor and Sridevi’s daughter Khushi Kapoor, Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan’s daughter Suhana Khan. The movie also starred Yuvraj Menda, Aditi ‘Dot’ Saigal, and Vedang Raina in lead roles.
