Actor Abhishek Bachchan, born to Bollywood royalty, spoke about the lessons he has learned from parents Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan. He said that from his mother, he learned the importance of loyalty, and from his father, he learned how to be dutiful and punctual.

Abhishek appeared on Raj Shamani’s podcast ahead of the release of his new film, Ghoomer, directed by R Balki. He said that he has been fortunate to have grown up around women, and said that they are more evolved in many ways. Speaking about his mother, he said, “There are certain values that I see my mother live by; honour, loyalty, principles, which sadly are values we may be losing, slowly.”

He added, “Nobody thinks about loyalty these days. People are concerned about what they stand to gain from a relationship, if they don’t stand to gain anything, they drop out. I don’t like that, and that’s because I’ve seen my mother like that. From my father, I get discipline, duty. His sense of duty is immense.”

Abhishek said that his father, who is known for his professionalism, also taught him the importance of valuing others’ time. Asked if actors are usually late, Abhishek said, “No, I don’t think so. You’ve just met the wrong people, I guess. My family is always on time; the people I work with usually are. I feel the younger generation of actors is very conscientious of that. My father told me when I was a kid, ‘If you don’t respect time, time’s not going to respect you’.”

Abhishek said that his father told him to always arrive early for an appointment, and if, for some reason, he is running late, he must always inform the other person about this. During the ’70s and ’80s, when many Bollywood actors were notorious for arriving late to set, Amitabh was seen as an anomaly.
