After saying he quit alcohol, Aamir Khan admits he got ‘blackout drunk’ on 60th birthday, doesn’t remember any of the speeches guests made about him

Actor Aamir Khan, who recently turned 60, said that he doesn’t remember anything that happened at the party his family threw for him, because he drank too much. He said that speeches were made about him, but he doesn’t remember them. He woke up the next day to zero memory of what had happened, even though he had pictures and videos to look at. Aamir is currently promoting his new film, Sitaare Zameen Par, and he appeared in an interview with Mashable India, where he spoke about cutting down on his alcohol consumption.

He said, “Everyone organised a birthday party for me on my 60th. They invited all my near and dear ones, it was supposed to be a memorable day. I don’t drink much these, I’ve cut down alcohol consumption to almost zero. But that day, because it was a big birthday, everybody insisted that I have a drink or two. The thing with me is that I’m not someone who restricts himself; I’m an extreme person. And because I haven’t been drinking much, my body wasn’t used to it. We started at around 7 pm, and by 9 pm, I knew that I was buzzing.”

He continued, “This has happened to me a few times. When I woke up the next morning, I had no memory of the previous evening. There were videos and photos, and they told me that everyone said nice things about me, but I didn’t remember anything. It was a blackout. I was conducting myself normally during the party, but I have zero memories of my 60th birthday celebration. I was reacting to what people were saying about me, but the memory has been wiped out completely.”

It was a few years ago that Aamir first claimed to have gone sober because of his past experiences with alcohol. In a conversation with Nana Patekar last year, he said, “I smoke a pipe. Now I have quit drinking but at one point, I used to drink. And when I used to drink, I would drink all night. I could not stop.” He said that he sank into a deep depression following his divorce from first wife Reena. “I couldn’t sleep at night, and I started drinking. From someone who didn’t drink at all, I went to being someone who drank an entire bottle in a day. I was like Devdas, someone who is trying to destroy themselves. I did that for 1.5 years. I was in a deep depression,” he told Instant Bollywood.
