A group of Congress Working Committee (CWC) members seemed extremely impressed with the “hardworking” Srinivas BV, the former president of Indian Youth Congress who was nicknamed “oxygen man” during the Covid-19 pandemic for arranging oxygen cylinders for patients in need. During a chat at Veer Soudha  — the venue for the CWC meeting in Belagavi on Thursday — the CWC members were heard praising Srinivas in his absence. They spoke about how the former IYC chief, who hails from Shimoga district of Karnataka, was “working round the clock and everywhere”. They also discussed how he was instrumental in organising the two Bharat Jodo yatras led by Rahul Gandhi.

Missed At Meet

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was missed by many party leaders at the CWC meeting in Belagavi. Priyanka was expected to attend the ‘Nav Satyagraha Baithak’ — to mark 100 years of Mahatma Gandhi assuming the presidency of the party at the Belagavi session in 1924 — but she could not. Her absence led to discussions among party leaders about why she did not come. While some said she was unwell, others said she had to stay in Delhi to be close to her mother Sonia Gandhi who was not keeping well.

Unique Feat

Union Minister of State for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences Jitendra Singh on Thursday visited Hyderabad’s Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services, which houses the country’s Tsunami Early Warning System, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the 2004 tsunami. The minister said when he asked the Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences, M Ravichandran one unique thing about the institute, he was informed that four of the five directors of the institute went on to become secretaries in the Ministry of Earth Sciences. The minister went on to say with a strike rate of 80%, people are likely to queue up for the top job.
