Union Minister of Science and Technology Jitendra Singh has been busy with his appointments since his arrival from France, where he was attending the UN Ocean Conference, on Wednesday night. He took off for Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday morning to attend a party event. The minister will return to Delhi on Friday morning. In fact, even during his four-day France visit, the minister initially stopped over in Germany, attended bilateral meetings in Monaco, before heading to Nice where the conference was taking place.
Returning to power in the Capital after more than two decades, the BJP government, it is learnt, is planning grand events across the city to observe Sewa Diwas on the occasion of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday on September 17. According to party sources, this will be the first time that the Delhi government will officially organise events on the occasion. The Delhi government has also planned citywide programmes on the International Day of Yoga on June 21, the first such events since 2014 when the Modi government came to power at the Centre.
An event organised by the IMD on direct dissemination of heat warnings to workers and communities was ironically marked with at least three power cuts. With a sweltering 43 degrees Celsius temperature outside, a compere remarked that the power outages and discomfort caused by the heat was a timely reminder of how critical the day’s deliberations were going to be. The event was held at an auditorium inside Mausam Bhawan and five tower air conditioners were arranged to keep the gathering comfortable.
