Minimum marks for science entry: Ball is in govt court

Admission to junior colleges is about to begin with the announcement of SSC results, but the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) is yet to take a call on the minimum marks for admission to science courses.

Admission to junior colleges is about to begin with the announcement of SSC results, but the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) is yet to take a call on the minimum marks for admission to science courses.

MSBSHSE chairman Sarjerao Jadhav said the delay was on the part of the state government. The Board,he said, had already forwarded the proposal.

“We proposed either scrapping of the condition that prohibits candidates not having minimum 40 per cent marks in science in class X from opting for science in junior college or bringing down minimum marks to 35 per cent,” he said, adding that a formal decision on the proposal is expected soon.

The sale of admission form will start next week,as announced by the authorities of the Centralized Admission Process.

Over 1,000 Class XII students of science stream from Aurangabad division of the Board were in the dock early this year when it emerged that these students were given admission to science courses in junior colleges though though they did not score 40 per cent in SSC,the minimum needed for entry into science courses. These students, were later allowed to appear for Class XII Board examination as a special case.
