The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is currently searching for a suitable location for the Mumbai Eye project, other than Bandra Reclamation. SVR Srinivas, MMRDA Commissioner, confirmed this development to the Indian Express.

Previously, MMRDA had invited applications from consultants to conduct a preliminary study on the traffic impact and environmental aspects of implementing the proposed Mumbai Eye project at the Bandra Reclamation site. However, the tender will now be revised to require consultants to identify a more appropriate location for the project, according to an MMRDA official.

This decision was made after some residents expressed objections to the proposed Bandra Reclamation site for the Mumbai Eye project. They were concerned about the potential adverse effects on traffic, which would create difficulties for the large number of local residents residing in the area.

It is important to note that Bandra Reclamation is one of Mumbai’s upscale neighborhoods, situated in close proximity to the city’s first sea link, the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. Many Bollywood celebrities also reside here, as several buildings offer a scenic sea view.

According to the MMRDA official, a few residents met with Legislator Ashish Shelar of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to express their concerns about the traffic impact of the proposed Mumbai Eye project at Bandra Reclamation. Therefore, the decision to explore other suitable locations has been taken. However, the official did not rule out the possibility of reconsidering the Bandra Reclamation site if no alternative location is found, according to sources.

Meanwhile, the appointed consultant, for which the tender was previously floated, will be responsible for studying the proposed project site, assessing and documenting the environmental impact, and suggesting an approach to obtain necessary clearances from statutory authorities.

According to an MMRDA official, the Mumbai Eye giant observation wheel project is expected to attract both national and international tourists. Therefore, it is essential to assess and plan for accessibility, parking, traffic management, public transportation enhancements, and other factors based on tourist requirements.
