Among the 11 police commissionerates across Maharashtra, the Mira Bhayander Vasai Virar (MBVV) police commissionerate ranked number one in the 100-days programme announced by Devendra Fadnavis after he took charge as the Maharashtra Chief Minister in December last year.
There was a list of 10 criteria that the various police units competed in, which included use of AI in police investigation, office efficiency, improving lives of citizens among others.
According to the results announced by CM Fadnavis on social media, while MBVV topped the list with 84.57 per cent, it was followed by Thane and Government Railway Police. Mumbai police, which received recognition at the 50-day programme, did not feature in the top three this time around.
Commissioner of Mira Bhayander Vasai Virar Police Madhukar Pandey said, “We have taken several steps to improve our website and also made it carbon friendly. The basic infrastructure of police stations has been improved to create a pleasant working atmosphere. We have also started a Whatsapp channel that is verified, where we send updates regarding the latest cyber crime trends.”
When it came to police districts that are smaller police units headed by a Superintendent of Police, Palghar police led by SP Balasaheb Patil topped the list with 90.29 points, followed by Gadchiroli and Nagpur (rural) police districts—both at 80 points.
Inspector General (Konkan) topped the list in the category of police ranges that usually have two or more police districts under its jurisdiction.
