Marking the 75th birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Marathwada Liberation Day, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday launched the Mukhyamantri Samruddha Panchayatraj Abhiyan at Kingaon in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. The campaign, aimed at transforming rural governance and promoting self-reliance, also included a major financial inclusion announcement targeting women beneficiaries of the state’s welfare schemes.

Fadnavis announced that beneficiaries of the Majhi Ladki Bahin scheme would now be eligible for interest-free loans of Rs 1 lakh through District Cooperative Banks. The scheme, introduced ahead of the 2024 Assembly elections, provides Rs 1,500 per month to women below the poverty line.

“We are determined to empower one crore ladki bahin and make them Lakhpati Didis. Every village will set up its own credit society through which these loans will be facilitated, thereby providing sustainable livelihood opportunities,” said Fadnavis.

“This Abhiyan is not only about implementing schemes but also about enabling every villager to live with dignity through people’s participation, which is the core of this movement,” the CM said.

The campaign will focus on empowering rural cooperatives and supporting 17 different business models to strengthen village-level institutions. Covering 28,000 gram panchayats and 40,000 villages from September 17 to December 31, 2025, it is designed to leave no village behind.

Fadnavis emphasised the campaign’s scale and competitive format, stating, “This is the first campaign in the country to allocate Rs 250 crore as awards, making it a landmark initiative.” Villages will compete for rewards at the taluka, district, and state levels, with prize amounts ranging from lakhs to crores.

Earlier in the day, Fadnavis hoisted the national flag at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar to mark Marathwada Liberation Day, commemorating the region’s integration into India after being freed from Nizam rule. He paid tribute to the martyrs of the movement and highlighted the significance of the occasion.

“This day must not be seen only as a commemoration of regional freedom but as a historic milestone in the making of a united India. Our government continues to work relentlessly for the development of Marathwada. Farmers affected by recent heavy rains will receive immediate assistance. The state government has taken a firm decision to make Marathwada drought-free, and the work to deliver water to every farmer is underway. In the last two years, seven projects have created 38.48 million cubic metres of water storage, and these efforts will be scaled further,” he said.

Highlighting the region’s future growth potential, Fadnavis added that Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Jalna represent the next phase of Maharashtra’s industrialisation. “Connectivity advantages offered by Samruddhi Expressway and the DelhiMumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC) can be fully leveraged to position the region as a preferred destination for investors,” he said.
