Four of a family swept away at Aare Ware beach in Ratnagiri, bodies recovered

Four persons drowned at Aare Ware beach in Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri district on Saturday evening, police said.

The victims were identified as Uzma Shaikh (18), Umera Shaikh (29), Zainab Qazi (26), and Junaid Qazi (30).

According to police, Uzma and Umera had come from Mumbra to meet their relatives Zainab and Junaid in Ratnagiri and had gone to the beach despite rough sea and rain.

While playing in the water, they were swept away by strong waves, police said.

Local residents attempted to rescue them but were unsuccessful. All the four bodies were recovered by 7 pm.

Ratnagiri police control room Assistant Sub Inspector S Surve said that an accidental death report was filed at the local police station.
