Draft rules on app-based cabs: Deadline for suggestions extended till May 20

THE STATE government has extended the time to seek responses from citizens on the draft rules and regulations for app-based cab services providers till May 20.

The earlier deadline for the draft rules was May 9, however, only 150 responses were received from citizens, following which a decision was taken to extend the date, an official from the transport department said.

A dedicated committee was formed under retired IAS officer Sudhir Kumar Srivastava by the state government to prepare a draft on rules and regulations to be introduced on app- based cab service providers. These will pertain to aspects such as fixation of fare, cancellation charges, as well as standard procedures to be followed on safety and security.

The committee was formed after incidents of misbehavior by private cab service providers with commuters and responses were invited from citizens on the draft rules.

The Centre already has rules and regulations for private cab service providers and aggregators involved in such services. The state government wants to come up with its own set of rules on the lines of the Central government.
