The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation(BMC) run Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Centenary Municipal General Hospital in Govandi has resumed full-scale medical operations, with appointments of five additional Resident Medical Officers (RMOs) that will enhance care across departments.

“With an adequate number of doctors now available in the Intensive Care Unit, inpatient wards, and the Outpatient Department (OPD), the hospital’s medical services have resumed smoothly,” read a statement from the BMC.

The hospital, catering to daily footfalls of 600–700 outpatients, previously operated with just four RMOs; five more have now been recruited, ensuring that the smooth functioning of hospital services is sustained. These new appointments will facilitate resumption of critical services, particularly in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU).

The staffing boost comes as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in Govandi. The BMC is redeveloping the Centenary Hospital into a 580-bed super-specialty facility, with around 70% of construction completed. Although the project, originally slated to be functional by mid-2024, has faced delays, the addition of medical staff offers an immediate and concrete improvement for local healthcare services.
