A day after Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis claimed that Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi was trying to seek support from urban naxals by holding a “red” Constitution book, the Congress leader slammed him saying the BJP leader has insulted Constitution maker Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar by linking the Constitution to naxalism.
“According to the former BJP Chief Minister of Maharashtra, showing Babasaheb’s constitution and raising voice for caste censu is a naxalite idea. This thinking of the BJP is an insult to the Constitution maker and Maharashtra’s son Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar,” Gandhi wote in Hindi on social media website X.
“During Lok Sabha elections, the people of Maharashtra fought the battle for Constitution and secured a big win for Maha Vikas Aghadi. The people of Maharashtra will not tolerate the insult of Babasaheb. They will protect our constitution by responding with full force to every attack by joining hands with Congress and Maha Vikas Aghadi,” he said
During his visit to Nagpur on Wednesday, Gandhi had carried a copy of the Constitution in his hand at the ‘Samvidhan Samman Sammelan’ where he advocated for a caste census.
Responding to this, Fadnavis had said, “My allegations made two days back against Rahul Gandhi about his inclination towards ‘urban naxals’ have proved true . He showed the red book and tried seeking help (politically) from urban naxals and anarchists. He was either giving them some warning or seeking their help. Rahul Gandhi indulges in such drama regularly. He, on a daily basis, insults the Constitution in some or the other way.”
