Chaos prevailed at Lucknow’s Chaudhary Charan Singh airport on Thursday as Indigo flights got cancelled and delayed, leading to sloganeering by stranded passengers.
“Six flights to Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Mumbai have been cancelled since morning, and five more are likely to be cancelled,” Indigo’s Deputy Airport Manager Krishna Kant Bharti said, adding the disruptions were limited to domestic flights. According to him, there are 35 Indigo flights from Lucknow.
Referring to the new Flight Duty Time Limitation (FDTL) norms that came into effect last month, Bharti said: “There is a flying limitation of hours for the captains as per the new DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) rules and regulations. This has hampered the operations.”
He, however, claimed that international flights are running on time. Indigo operates three daily international flights – to Dammam, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi – from Lucknow.
IndiGo, which is the country’s largest airline, has been grappling with flight disruptions for the past few days, with the situation worsening particularly from Tuesday.
“Situation will start improving from Friday, and we expect that normalcy to return by Saturday morning,” Bharti added.
On the inconvenience caused to passengers due to cancellations and delays, the Indigo official said, “We are ensuring that notification about cancellation is sent to the passengers, and they will get a full refund for the cancelled flights. Those arriving at the airport and coming from far-off places are being offered food and stay with the condition of availability in nearby hotels.”
Meanwhile, there was chaos at the Lucknow airport as passengers were seen having heated arguments with Indigo staff and raising slogans against flight cancellations and delays.
The passengers complained that Indigo staff at the airport were not informing them about the status of their flights, and they were kept waiting for hours.
Some of them also complained of not receiving a refund for their cancelled flight tickets.
